Bringing Burgundy to Iceland August 29th, 2019

Bookmark

I have just returned from a week on the north coast of Iceland where they have magical scenery, magnificent horses and some great natural geothermal hot tubs. But no vineyards, and certainly no Burgundy except what we brought ourselves – nothing grand but a magnum of Pierre Guillemot’s 2017 Savigny-les-Beaune Vieilles Vignes and a bottle of Domaine des Comtes Lafon’s 2007 Monthelie Les Duresses certainly hit the spot.

In the meantime I have been tidying up some tasting reports resulting from a week’s symposium centred on the Hill of Corton. Wee went to many of the key domaines and enjoyed some exciting mini-verticals – including one of almost every vintage produced to date of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti’s Corton. This, a mini-vertical of Faiveley’s Clos des Cortons Faiveley, and a general report of some other highlights of the week have now been uploaded to the site.

In the next few days I shall be visiting a few vineyards and vignerons to see how everything is shaping up for the 2019 vintage. The annual excitement is almost with us once again!
