JMIB tasting reports

The core activity of our Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy website is the provision of Tasting Reports. Each one of these provides an interesting narrative in its own right, while also populating the database which is growing all the time, and from which at any time you can check up on the current rating of any wine of interest. The Tasting Reports themselves come in various guises and this is fully explained below in “An introduction to Tasting Reports”.

JMIB Tasting Notes

All wines are given both a point score and a star rating: A full explanation can be found by clicking on “An Introduction to Tasting Notes” below.

    2017: The Vintage Report (Chablis)
Chablis in 2017 Whereas the Côte d’Or more or less escaped the frost in 2017, more northerly Chablis suffered colder temperatures in April and noticeably more damage. The worst hit sectors were the northern part of Chablis, around Lignorelles and Maligny, and then the top vineyards, premier and grand cru,...

  • 2008: Ten Years On
    2008: Ten Years On
I was a little less enthusiastic at the outset about this vintage though it found a number of supporters. The colours were typically quite pronounced from the word go and though there was often intense fruit at the front and powerful acidity behind, there was too often a hole in...

2016: The Vintage Report (Côte d’Or)
My aim is to give a relatively comprehensive guide to the 2016 vintage in Burgundy. I have visited around 100 producers and completed notes on around 1350 wines. In future years I hope to add in further producers, a mix of classic names who I was not able to visit...

    1998: Twenty Years On
On the occasion of the annual 10 Year On tasting for the 2008 vintage, a number of generous and brave vignerons also supplied samples from 1998. This was a particularly difficult vintage for the white wines, many of which were frosted at Easter, suffered from oidium in the spring and...

    2016: The Vintage Report (Chablis)
Two visits to Chablis earlier this year were principally aimed at tasting the 2017s, which will appear in my end of year vintage report. Many producers were keen to show their 2016 vintage as well or instead, if the 2017s were not yet ready to taste. A few 2015s and...
