Younger son of Bernard Moreau, Benoît set up on his own in a new winery below the main road (D974) in 2021, taking with him his share of vineyards, totalling 4.2ha, from the family domaine. In addition to these he has 2 hectares of Chiroubles and Corcelette, while friends in Chassagne-Montrachet provided him with grapes or must to start off in the excellent 2020 vintage.
The vineyards are farmed biodynamically and the wines will be aged for up to 18 months in barrel, with minimal new oak. Included within Benoît’s share of the family monopoly of La Cardeuse is a small plot of 0.15ha of Chardonnay, deliberately planted in white in 1955 to reflect a limestone outcrop in the middle of the vineyard.
