Julien Philippon came to Fleys from the Morvan in 1868, adding vines to his main occupation as a woodcutter. His grandson André bought the Château de Fleys, in reality a 17th century hunting pavilion, in 1988. The domaine, now covering 29ha of vineyards of which a fair proportion have only recently been planted, is now in the hands of André’s children, Béatrice, Benoît and Olivier.

The 1ers crus are hand-harvested. As well as Les Fourneaux and Mont de Milieu, there is a vieilles vignes cuvée of the latter (vines planted in 1935/6), and various regular Chablis bottlings. Two to note are ‘Incontournable’ from La Grande Chaume (below Les Fourneaux) and Le Clos du Château, from a walled enclosure (vines planted in 1965 and 1985) in front of the Château itself.
